Some random info on Pastor Will in his own words.
Sports: I infrequently play basketball and really enjoy playing it. I enjoy bike riding and am getting into weight lifting. I prefer college over pro basketball and often watch UNC basketball during the season. I am also a lapsed fan of NC State football. I miss Chuck Amato.
Drives:I use to drive a 2007 green Honda CRV, that I nicknamed the Green Machine. We ditched it so we could afford breathing room in our budget. Who needs two newer vehicles anyway?
On the Radio dial: I’m listening to whatever my mood of the day is and am just as likely listening to my mp3 player. When I am in my wife’s Honda Accord I’m listening to either KLOVE or whatever country or soft rock station she has it on. We often are listening to some CD. My wife loves music, we are a good fit. I like WHQR 91.3 (NPR) and 93.7 (The Big Talker).
In the CD/MP3 Player: Big fan of Johnny Cash. Currently have been listening to a lot of Derek Webb and Sojourn Music. Most recently been listening to BB King and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Check out my playlist on last.fm
Ministry outside the church: I am the IT Director at a local non-profit called the Yahweh Center Children’s Village where I manage the campus IT infrastructure, graphic/web design, and do some data entry and accounting.
Favorite drink? I like to drink those fruit flavored vitamin waters. I occasionally enjoy wine or dark Ales and think light beer is pretty much of the devil. I don’t drink to often because I don’t want to be the stereotypical fat preacher.I’m currently not drinking anything while working on my MA. The seminary has a no drinking policy. I honor it even though I do not agree. Respecting authority sometimes isn’t fun, but God honors it.
Bio: I am a transplant to Wilmington area from a small town called Louisburg just north of the Triangle. I have lived 24 years in the South and 5 years in the Northeast. I have traveled the entire East coast and never found a place I like as much as the Wilmington area. We currently reside in Rocky Point/Hampstead area. I chased after Olivia the most beautiful woman in the world and by God’s grace caught her. She has been my much better half since September 2004. Our first child Eila Grace was born in February 2008. She is a beautiful bundle of energy. We are waiting for our second child Asher Benjamin to arrive in November/December 2009. I am far more blessed than I deserve.
Before moving to the area, I worked with computers and then was a youth minister while in College. My first professional job was a web and graphic designer in Raleigh NC. I later worked as a IT technician at a Baptist Seminary called Southeastern. During that experience I almost rejected “organized” religion because of the crap* that I experienced, sometime participated in, and often observed. At Southeastern I also experienced and observed some of the greatest acts of Christian hospitality and observed a geniuses of many that still amazes me.
When I met my wife I left that world behind and moved to the beautiful Wilmington area. I am now a church planter (translate that as a guy who want to start new churches for the glory of God) in Hampstead NC. We are slowly starting Crossmark Church by God’s Sovereign Grace. Often slower than I prefer.
Why are you planting Crossmark? Short answer because I believe God told me to do so. Longer answer can be found at the vision for Crossmark Church.
